We invite you to find out about our activities & support our work. Your small contribution means a lot.

About Us

The inception of the Economic Rural Development Society (ERDS) can be attributed to the unwavering dedication of Sri Madhu Basu, who founded the organization in 1982. Witnessing the escalating poverty both in rural and urban areas, Mr. Basu felt compelled to establish ERDS as a non-profit, non-political entity committed to alleviating the suffering of the underprivileged.

Initially rooted in Boral (South 24 Parganas), Vikahar (Dakshin Dinajpur), Thinagar, Gajole & Habibpur (Malda), ERDS embarked on its journey by focusing on non-formal and adult education. Over time, its scope expanded to encompass diverse initiatives such as Women & Child development, Health & Nutrition, Care & Rehabilitation of the Elderly, Skill Development Training, International Relations, and Publications.

Presently, ERDS impacts the lives of approximately 120,000 beneficiaries, striving relentlessly to uplift the impoverished and empower them towards dignified livelihoods. Despite the strides made since its inception, ERDS recognizes that there remains a considerable distance to traverse in its mission to serve the marginalized and disadvantaged communities.
