Chami Soren, a resident of Gopalpur village in Gazole Block, had always struggled with the lack of proper sanitation facilities. With no toilet in her house, Chami and her family of four were forced to defecate in the open, causing frequent stomach ailments and putting a strain on their finances due to the cost of medical treatment.
As a regular attendee of the monthly meetings and awareness camps organized by the Economic Rural Development Society (ERDS) about water and sanitation, Chami was aware of the importance of proper sanitation facilities. She shared her dream of having a toilet with the ERDS, hoping that they could help her make it a reality.
ERDS recognized the urgent need for proper sanitation facilities in Chami's household and passed a proposal unanimously to provide assistance. With support from MCC, ERDS contributed 75% towards the construction of the toilet, and Chami provided the remaining 25%.
Chami could hardly contain her excitement upon the completion of the toilet. "I am so happy that I finally have a toilet in my house," she exclaimed. "No longer do we have to worry about falling sick due to open defecation or the expenses that come with it. This is a dream come true!"
Chami's story is a testament to the power of community support and collaboration towards a common goal. With the support of ERDS and MCC, Chami's life has been transformed from one of struggle and hardship to one of hope and dignity.
